X-Men

The X-Men, also known as The Children of the Atom, are a team of fictional superhero characters in comic books published by Marvel Comics. In the series, Professor Xavier responds to anti-mutant prejudice by creating a haven at his Westchester mansion to train young mutants to use their powers for the betterment of humanity. Xavier spent months recruiting his early students (codenamed Cyclops, Iceman, Angel, Beast, and Marvel Girl), dubbing them "X-Men" because each possessed an "extra" ability normal humans lacked. The X-Men made their public debut by thwarting the villainous mutant terrorist Magneto.

The X-Men comics have been adapted in other media, including animated television series, video games, and a successful series of films.
