Rietschel Ernst Friedrich August (1804—1861)

Ernst Friedrich August Rietschel was born into a lower middle-class family. He studied at the Dresden Art Academy before moving to Berlin in 1826 to study with sculptor, Christian Daniel Rauch. Rietschel received a scholarship to study sculpture in Italy and received consistent commissions for architectural sculptures upon his return to Germany.
