Nimmo Jenny (b. 1944) «The Snow Spider»

Jenny Nimmo was born in Windsor, where she grew up on her uncle's free-range chicken farm. She was sent to boarding school when she was only six, which she hated, but became happier when she went to secondary school and was encouraged to become an actress. Her guardian's wife was a famous dancer, so she went to watch a lot of ballet too.

At school, Jenny was quite naughty and was always making her friends laugh by imitating her teachers behind their backs. She was also the long jump champion of her school for three years in a row!

Jenny always had a passion for reading and had read all the books in the junior school library and had moved onto the senior school library by the time she was ten. Whenever she wrote stories they were often quite violent and you could always find a dead body in them! Jenny used to entertain her school friends by telling creepy stories after lights out in the dormitory.

She nows lives in a remote part of Wales and is probably best known for the Award winning Snow Spider Trilogy, stories that combine Welsh myth, the supernatural and family conflict. These stories have been made into an HTV series starring Sian Phillips.

She says she enjoys writing about magic because it is inexplicable and unpredictable, and anything can happen. She is currently working on a series of five books called the Children of the Red King. The first of these 'Midnight for Charlie Bone' was published in 2002 and the latest installment, the third in the series is called 'The Blue Boa' and was published in April 2004.
