Hoppner John (1758—1810)

John Hoppner first trained to be a chorister at the Chapel Royal, St. James Place. Later, he was granted an allowance from George III to study at the Royal Academy School, a gift that led to rumors that Hoppner was the king’s illegitimate son. He was made portrait painter to the Prince of Wales in 1789. Hoppner’s most successful portraits were those of women and children.
