Pietaris Vincas
(1850—1902)

Writer. In 1879, after graduating from Moscow University, he worked as a doctor in Russia. From 1891 he contributed articles to periodicals Varpas (The Bell), Ūkininkas (The Farmer), Žemaičiuų ir Lietuvos apžvalga (The Survey of Samogitia and Lithuania), Tėvynes sargas (The Guard of Motherland) etc. He was the author of publicistic, historical, linguistic articles and works on folklore. Pietaris was the first to write a historical novel in Lithuanian "Algimantas, arba Lietuva XIII šimtmetyje" (Algimantas, or Lithuania in the 13th Century).
