Trindade Coelho José
Portuguese writer who is best known for his regional short stories, most of which are set in remote, rural northern Portugal. Trindade Coelho graduated in 1885 from the University of Coimbra and subsequently entered the government legal service. He was a magistrate in Lisbon from 1890 until his retirement in 1907. He committed suicide the following year. His fame rests upon a single volume of stories, Os meus amores (1891; “My Loves”).
