Seliškar Tone (1900—1969) «The Brotherhood of Sky Blue Sea Gull»«Bratovščina Sinjega galeba»

The life of Tone Seliškar, Slovene poet, writer, publicist, translator and young adult author, began and ended in Ljubljana. After finishing his studies at the teacher's training college, he taught in numerous places around Slovenia, among them Dramlje, Trbovlje and Ljubljana. During World War II Seliškar supported the liberation movement and joined the partisans in 1943. After the war he worked as a journalist and editor of a variety of children's magazines up to his retirement. Seliškar was a socially committed author. His poetry was marked by a transition from Expressionism towards New Objectivity (movement of the mid-1920s in German literature) and his fiction by Naturalism. Seliškar is especially known for his books for youngsters, which were translated into many foreign languages. The most famous of these, Bratovščina Sinjega galeba ("The Brotherhood of Sky Blue Sea Gull") published in 1936, is the story about a brave boy called Ivo and his friends, who get into fight with the smugglers.
